Celtic Oracle by Nigel Pennick and Nigel Jackson

I came across this deck by change and was totally floored...I never knew Nigel Jackson did a Celtic Oracle! I had only been familiar with his Rumi Tarot, Medieval Enchantment, and Rune Cards. I love his art so was excited to see he did another deck.

Unfortunately I believe it's long out of print. I actually cannot find much information at all about the deck! Does anyone have this one? What's it like to work with? Any info is appreciated, since seriously there is almost no info online at all that I can find.

Pretty sure I want this one, although I'm sure it will take me a long time to find one...

many times the hunt is part of the fun

I passed on this one because I found all the celtic oracles I'd had weren't very workable for me.

not much help :)

I do have Pennick's rune book, most of which I really like.

25 cards - size 8 x 12 cm - backs beautiful but not reversible.

20 of the cards are linked with Ogham symbols, five are not.

Card titles:

The Birch Tree - Beth

Lady of the Unicorn - Luis

The World Tree - Nion

The Wondrous head - Fearn

The Hawk of May - Saille

The Flower Maiden - Huath

The Oak King - Duir

The Green Knight - Tinne

The Nuts of Wisdom - Coll

The Island of Apples - Quert

The Harvest Wine - Muin

The Ivy Bush - Gort

The Wild Hunt - Ngetal

The Increaser of Secrets - Straif

The Daughter of the Bones - Ruis

The White Roebuck

The Lapwing - Ailim

The Queen of the East - Onn

The Summer Queen - Ur

The Queen of the West - Eadha

The Weaving Sisters - Iodho

The Sword of Nuada

The Spear of Lugh

The Cauldron of the Dagda

The Stone of Destiny

If you're familiar with Celtic myth you'll have an understanding of some of those links already.

I find the artwork slightly foggy or soft-focused, but not so as to stop me liking it. I think you have to spend a bit of time with to either learn some of the given meanings or be able to place your own meanings on it.

Happy to answer any other questions if I can

Thank you SO MUCH PathWalker! That is incredibly helpful. I am really interested in this one. How is the book that goes with it?

The book is informative, perhaps a little bit 'dry' in comparison to modern tarot-type books. They're not trying to be your friend, just pass on info, you know?

Plenty of background info if you're new to Celtic myths or runes, and some nice layouts and that kind of thing at the back. I'd certainly want to have the book as well as the cards :)

That is great to know. Thanks PathWalker, I've added this one to my wish list! Hopefully I will find one, or it will find me, eventually :D

Don't you just hate it when you see a deck you really like and find it's OOP?

*wishing I hadn't looked at this thread*  ;D

THE BEST CARDS I HAVE EVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BOND WITH AND WORK WITH. LOST SOME CARDs- been looking for them ever since. The best cards ever.

Many years ago I contacted the publishers (Capall Bann I think?) and they could provide a black and white version - printed on normal card and with no back, but they were only a couple of £. I have them, keep thinking of colouring them in...

If you're looking for them second hand, make sure you're getting the cards and book and not just the book.
